Showkiller Weekly Review
Week 1:
Welcome to the first week of official Winter League. Hopefully everyone had a great first week of games and met a lot of new faces. Most importantly whether your team won or lost is that you have fun and try to learn something new every week.
After getting to the field over an hour early- not because I wanted to but because I forgot about the time change- I had a little time to scope the weather out. Today was a perfect afternoon for ultimate with the high around 73 degrees and a slight wind from the north.
Enough babbling Showkiller on with the reviews:

2:00 PM Games Recap
Team 4 vs. Team 1
This game went the distance time wise and was close throughout with a lot of point trading. With their first episode “The Lyle and Cyle Show” kept everyone’s attention as they razzled and dazzled their victims even without Leathers. An unforced error finally spelled the end for Team 1’s undefeated season, allowing Team 4 to hold on for a win. Final: 12-11, Team 4.
Team 7 vs. Team 5 (Preemptive Christmas)
The delay of one of Hollywood’s main actors- Tim went to the wrong field across town- spelled trouble for Team 5, who couldn’t get it into gear. The Mimmo to Schmidt game was on target and Showkiller had no answer. When Tim finally showed up, it was much the same, with the two crews trading point. The closest the 5s got was 9-8. Mimmo’s team then put Team 5 out of its misery with a tidy 4-2 run. Final: 13-10, Team 7.
Team 6 vs. Team 2
The absence of the father/son duo (the Stuarts) spelled disaster for Team 2. Zen played his low key game to devastating effect, while RJ, Matt, and Nacho all showed why this year is simply about handling business. And wait- did Jonathan really get a Callahan? In the end, it was just another day at the office for Team 6. Final: 13-4, Team 6. [Editors note: Showkiller doesn't know KJ/Britta]
Team 3 vs. Team 8
Team 3 must not have known they were ranked #1 in the Showkiller poll, since Team 8 was able to take them the distance. Team 3, it should be noted, was missing a couple of key players (Wes and Joel) which gave just the opening that the creative mind of Kevin Switzer and Team 8 needed. With Kevin able to put the disc anywhere on the field, the 8s rallied and kept it close. Team 3, however, scrambled at the right moment and was able to scrape together the win. Final: 8-6, Team 3.
3:30 PM Games
Team 1 (0-1) vs. Team 6 (1-0)
After losing their first game, Team 1 was looking to cook up some revenge stew. Team 1 came out and played strong and took the half at 7-5. Team 6, though, wasn’t done and took the next 3 with BJ and Cohen leading the way. Team 1 came back with a Huck to Devon, and took the lead at 10-9, and didn’t look back. Final: 13-11, Team 1.
Team 4 (1-0) vs. Team 8 (0-1)
Not wanting to get run over by the “Lyle and Cyle Show”, Chloe, Team Switzer, and the young Captains went back to the drawing board after losing their first game. I’m not sure what to call their strategy, but it was definitely working. This could have been an upset in the makings if it weren’t for some of the other 4s who stepped up, including Cari, Emily, and the Caleb to Dan play. Because of this, Team 4 was able to stick to their strategy of razzle on offense and dazzle on defense. Final: 13-9, Team 4.
Team 7 (1-0) vs. Team 2 (0-1)
Team 2 and Mimmo’s troops got things started on the right foot with connections to Schmidtty in their first game and Team 2 was looking to show that Nathan and Nick weren’t the Alpha and the Omega. Sadly, apparently they are. Luckily, the Team 2 nightmare ended early, giving them plenty of time to lick their wounds, regroup and get ready for next week. Final: 13-2, Team 7.
Team 5 (0-1) vs. Team 3 (1-0)
Team 5 was looking to bounce back after not keeping Team 7 in check, and braced themselves to knock down Team 3, the #1 seed. However, with no Kristin in sight, Team Hollywood pulled out the zone and took the half, 7-3. Coming out of half Team 5 switched to man. Team 3 rallied and tied the score. Team 5 reverted to the zone, for which the 3s had no answer: Final: 13-8

Week 2 Predictions:
2:00 PM Games
#5 Team 1 (1-1) vs. #7 Team 8 (0-2)
Team 8 will have to watch out and match up well with Ashton and Travis. Team 1 has too many weapons- sorry Team 8. Team 1 wins by 5.
#6 Team 6 (1-1) vs. #2 Team 7 (2-0)
Although Team 6 has the experience and plenty of play makers I think Team 7 has just as many and has the height advantage for the Huck. Team 7 by 3.
#1 Team 4 (2-0) vs. #3 Team 5 (1-1)
This could be the game of the day. It will be close all day long. Team 5 will have to match up well to win. As all writers do, I write with a slight bias. Team 5 pulls off the upset, with Team 4 checking into the Smackdown Hotel. Team 5 by 1.
#8 Team 2 vs. #4 Team 3
If everyone shows up for these teams next week this will be a slug fest. However, with Joel’s ups and Nate’s arm Team 3 will take care of business. Team 3 by 6.
3:30 PM Games
#5 Team 1 vs. #2 Team 7
This will be another great game with great match ups all around. Unfortunately, the bandwagon stops here, kids, and the Showkiller is gettin off. Look for Team 7 to show the 1s the door. Team 7 by 5.
#7 Team 8 vs. #3 Team 5
After pulling the wind and the thunder away from mighty 4s, Team 5 will continue to roll as they take down the 8s. No problems here. Team 5 wins Hollywood style. Team 5 by 6.
#6 Team 6 vs. #4 Team 3
Look for the experience of Team 6 to pull the plug and upset the 3s. This will be a magic carpet ride for Team 3, so I hope they bring their notepads with them and take some notes as Zen takes them back to school- It will be close though. Team 6 by 2.
#1 Team 4 vs. #8 Team 2
After tasting defeat, the 4s will not like it and take out their wooden spoon and proceed to beat Team 2 handily. It’ll be a cakewalk. Team 4 by 7.
Thanks for reading and I’ll see you next week on the field, and if I don’t know you come by and say ‘Hi’. I promise I won’t bite.
See ya,
Phil the Showkiller
