SHOWKILLER WEEKLY REVIEW
WEEK 3:
Well week 3 is complete and we inch closer to my favorite time of year Playoff season. Things certainly changed in the standing with some upsets today.
Weather: 67 degrees with a slight wind from the South. Clear and sunny.
Results:
2:00 PM Games
#6 Gold (1-3) vs. #8 Carolina Blue (0-4)
Still winless going into the game Blades of Glory was looking to pull the upset against Team Gold. With no sign of their Disc-ninja Dustin, the Carolina Blues turned to KJ and Nathan. Basically, Gold had problems early and so Blades capitalized with a nice huck to Britta. Carolina then went on to easily close the deal: Final: 13-6, Carolina Blue.
#5 Red (2-2) vs. #4 Orange (2-2)
Red, playing savage, missed Hollywood's help with the scripting. Orange, on the other hand, had its full army of players and took advantage by storming to a 7-1 halftime lead. With help from Tim S. (who showed up in the second half) Red briefly got hot and made it a 7-4 game. Unfortunately for Christmas, that’s as close as it would get. Orange was overpowering, with Ashton, Marta, Sara, and Miguel leading the way. Final: 13-7, the Big Juicy Oranges.
#1 Navy (4-0) vs. #7 Gray (1-3)
Gray forfeits due to lack of players. There’s not much to add. Report: Jim (chess tournament with son), RJ (bad shoulder), BJ (ACL?), Cohen (sprain), Jonathan (sick). Several other players were MIA. Bummer.
#3 Purple (3-1) vs. #2 Green (3-1)
One of the top ranked games of the day as Green looked to hold off a battling Purple team. Purple came out on fire led by the huck master himself Nate and his favorite targets Wes and Joel. Basically, there were no weak players on the Purple line. Symptomatic: Nate on Kink all game long. Do the math. Final: 13-4, Purple.
3:30 Games
#6 Gold (1-3) vs. #7 Gray (1-3)
Gray forfeits due to lack of players. Same story.
#5 Red (2-3) vs. #8 Carolina Blue (1-4)
After winning their first game, Carolina Blue took on a short handed Red team. Seeing the lack of depth for Red, Blue came out with a modified zone with Nick as the deep and middle. The zone was effective, bringing turns for Christmas, and scores for Blades. Red again took on the role of Captain comeback by scoring 3 before Blue took half at 7-3. In the second half, Red figured out how to beat the zone, as well as how to play D. This got the Reds back in the game, with a score of 11-9. A Nathan to KJ huck (in double coverage), plus a goal line turn by the Showkiller shattered the Christmas dreams of Red. Final: 13-9, Blades O’ Comeback.
#1 Navy (5-0) vs. #2 Green (3-2)
The top rated game of the day as Navy took on Green. Though shorthanded, Navy suffered a collapse of colossal proportions. The young athletes of the deep blue sea squad repeatedly misfired. As for the mean Greens, it seemed like they were only covered part of the time. Leathers made at least one heroic D, but Tom and Mimmo were perfect, while Arpat (for some strange reason) made only good decisions in this game. And then Navy dropped the pull. Yup. It was bad. Final: 13-5, Green.
#3 Purple (4-1) vs. #4 Orange (3-2)
With the win over a top team in Green, Purple looked to repeat against the red hot Orangies. Joel, though, left, and powerful Orange looked nothing like the Greens. Orange took advantage with continued strong play from Miguel and Henry. The issue was never in doubt. Final: 13-8, Orange.
