SHOWKILLER WEEKLY REVIEW
WEEK 4:
After a nice vacation last week we're back again for more action without the UFUCT, FUEL and UFUCT B players who were off playing in tournaments. Some big wins in the last pool play set up some great 1st round playoff games.
Weather: 80 degrees with barely any wind.
Results:
2:00 PM Games
#3 Purple (4-2) vs. #1 Navy (5-1)
The stakes were high in this one with a #1 seed in the playoffs on the line. With only 6 people showing up for Purple they would have to play short handed all day long, with Navy keeping 7 on the line. Purple has great leadership from Nate and took the half, 7-6. Blue wasn’t done though, with Lyle hucking a flick deep for Leathers in the second half. Purple, however, answered with a huck from Nate to Joel. With the help of an outstanding supporting cast (think Adam and Matt), Purple rolled and accomplished the impossible. Final: 13-9, Purple.
#5 C. Blue (2-4) vs. #2 Orange (4-2)
High stakes were on the line for Orange with Navy losing. After all, a win would give them the #1 seed for the playoffs. With everyone there for C. Blue, it would prove to be a tough game for Orange. Great play from KJ and Nathan kept Orange at bay in this one. Orange had there chances, but couldn’t keep the Future from catching in the endzone. C. Blue crashed Orange’s party. Final: 13-9, Blades of Glory.
#7 Gold (2-4) vs. #4 Green (4-2)
With both Navy and Orange going down, no matter what, Green was going to be the Number 4 seed. Not knowing this, Green had all of their players their which should have made it a cakewalk against Gold, until Chloe and Keith of Gold both stepped up, and started playing tenacious D. They saw that it was the Schmitty/Mimmo show, and concentrated on shutting them down. Gold then forced the Universal Point, spelling disaster for the mean Greens. Stuff, score, win. Simple. Final: 12-11, Goldy Locks.
#6 Red (2-4) vs. #8 Silver (1-5)
Grey forfeit due to lack of players. Obviously a tactical manuver as they just wanted an eas(ier) ride in the B-pool. Jim was at a kiddie chess tournamnet, BJ's still injured. Matt is injured. RJ's nursing a shoulder, Katie's swamped with school...
Quarter Final Playoffs:
#1 Purple (5-2) vs. #8 Gray (1-6)
Gray would have to forfeit due to lack of players, giving short handed Purple a bye in the first round.
#4 Green (4-3) vs. #5 C Blue (3-4)
After losing their first game, Green was not looking to make it 2 in a row- especially with the entire family there. Green stepped up and shut down the Future. As the Irish say, “Luck be with the Green.” Plus, better decisions with the disc brought plenty of scores, ending C Blue’s comeback bid. Final: 13-9, The Mean Green Machines.
#3 Orange (4-3) vs. #6 Red (3-4)
Everything but punches were thrown in during this game. Without any girls on Orange, Red would have to get clarification from Mike to get the rules straight. Basically, Orange would have to play men down for however many girls Red would start on offense, and then Red would have to match Orange on their offense. It started out rough for Red, with turnovers which led to easy scores for Orange. Strong play from Darnell, Ashton, and Travis made for an oh so sad Christmas. Final: 13-10, Big Bouncy Oranges.
#2 Navy (5-2) vs. #7 Gold (3-4)
With a win over the highly seeded Green, Goldie Locks was looking to make it 2 in a row against a Cyle-less slumping Navy. The Million Dollar throws were working at first, but near the end zone, it would falter as the rooks would make dollar menu turns. Navy capitalized with a guy who plays with his heart, and not his head: Jason. Lyle and Mike put in their two cents, with smart play from both Dan and Caleb. Final: 13-9, Blue Tooth’s.
Predictions:
Navy capitalizes and takes it all in the A Bracket and wins.
C. Blue digs deep, and takes the B Bracket.
Great games today, and good luck next week. After that, Fall League will be history.
See ya soon,
