Show Killer - Week 4, Feb. 24th Review
Week Three is now history and the brackets are all filled out.
Congrats to the Bishops (Switzer/Brandon), Knights (Kink), and Kings
(Ted / Jill) for making the A pool. The rest of us will be polishing
their shoes for the rest of the season, since they kicked our asses.
Actually, this is fairly significant: The A pool teams are guaranteed
to be the 1-3 seed, while the B-pool Teams will be fighting hard for
breathing room at the bottom of the pile when it comes time for the
play-offs.
Recaps for Sunday, February 24th, 2008
Weather: Perfect conditions, 78 degrees, with a moderate zoney breeze
blowing out of the south
2 PM Games
Field 1: Pawns (YYY) (1-3) vs. Rooks (Bike Gang) (1-3)
The Bike Gang was missing a few links from their chain- think Ashton,
Hollywood, and many others- and could only put 6 on the line. In a
naked attempt to win the "spirit" award, the Pawns dropped one, and so
it was a game of 6s. The Pawns started off with a tight zone that
gave all sorts of problems to the Trikes, resulting in a 7-2 half time
lead. In the second half, the Rooks rallied- no wait- they didn't.
The Bike Gang got mangled. And the cheer? "4 wheels are better than
2." Yes they are. Final: 13-5, Pawns.
Field 2: Knights (Kink)(2-2) vs. Kings (Ted/Jill) (3-1)
This was a crucial game for the Knights. A win and they're in (the
A-pool). Ted and Jill, though, were out and the Kings could only
scrape up five warm bodies. The Knights (showing good spirit) matched
and were able to take the lead. Patrick's late arrival sparked a
glimmer of hope for the Kings, but like a Shakespearean tragedy it
faded away. Check and mate. Final: 13-8, Royal Knights.
Field 3: Bishops (Switzer/Brandon) (3-0) vs. Queens (Puyana's) (1-2)
The Bishops might have been vulnerable to get their first loss, but
apparently the Red leadership didn't know that there was a game. No
Sara (ok, she was coaching FUEL), no Marta, Tim or Travis. Cake walk-
right? Not quite. Henry seized the reins of command and put up a
valiant fight. The Bishops though, relied on careful disc handling
and smart decisions- oh whatever- who am I kidding? It was
Huckapalooza 2008. It's always Huckapalooza. If it works, it works.
Final: 12-10, Bishops.
3:30 PM Games
Field 1: Bishops (4-0) vs Knights (3-2)
The Bishops might not win pretty, but they do win. Could the Royal
Knights survive the huck? No, of course not. The only real complaint
by the Bishops was that the Knights weren't losing fast enough.
Sorry. They tried. Final: 13-8, Bishops.
Field 2: Pawns (2-3) vs Queens (1-3)
In this rematch, the Pawns were looking for revenge. In their last
meeting, the Reds ripped apart the hapless Pawns, and so that was
that. Now the tables were turned. Could Pretty Boy and his sandbagger
D save the day? No. No he couldn't. Final: 13-4, the resurgent
Pawns.
Field 3: Rooks (1-4) vs Kings (3-2)
Not much to report on this game. The Kings left and forfeited to an
undermanned Bike Gang squad.
Have a good week and I'll see you Sunday.
