Show Killer - Review

SHOWKILLER: WEEK 3, Feb 23rd.

Week Two is in the books and if you're like me, things aren't looking
too bright. On the other hand, you still have one more game to impress
the Frisbee gods and sneak into the A Pool.

Shirts, by the way, were passed out this week and they look great.
There's a different chess piece for each team- and strangely, my team
got the pawn. Are you trying to send a message, Czar?
[ Editors note: each winter league team is named after one of the UFUCT
boys (including Higher Level). Can you match the team with the boy?]

And of course, we all need to send our thanks Ted and his crew for all
of their hard work. The shirts and numbers look just great.

Here are a few reminders from the Czar:

Next week will be the final game of pool play. After that, the league
will be divided into an A and B pool, with round-robin play, plus a
cross over game. If you think it sounds complicated, you are
correct.

And of course, the Czar just announced the cancellation of "Men's
League." Something tells me it will be back- much like a fungus or a
needy girlfriend.

Check the league site for the revised schedule.

Recaps for Sunday, February 17, 2008

Weather: Perfect conditions, 80 degrees, with a moderate zoney breeze
blowing out of the south

2 PM Games

Field 1: Team Kink/Blue Knights (1-1) vs. Bike Gang/Rooks(0-2)

With everyone back from Janus, the Bike Gang was looking to get their
chain back on the track. There were only two problems for the bikers:
Skool and Jia. Basically, the Knights got the lead and were able to
initiate the Jay Blakadar stratagem*- my personal favorite. Final:
10-6, Blue Knights

Field 2: Team T/J /Kings(2-0) vs. Team Swiss/Bishops (2-0)

This was a battle of the un-beatens and is probably a preview of the
league finals. Team Swiss came out like a junkie who hadn't gotten
high in a month, and seized the lead like they were scoring horse.
The Kings, though, dug in and came back to tie it at 8s- just in time
for universe point. The Kings then ran into the ol' turn-huck-score
play. Final: 9-8, Team Swiss

Field 3: Fighting Puyanas/Queens (0-2) vs. Team Stuart/YYY/Pawns
(1-1)

Ahhh where to begin with this one? With the Future out for the day,
which meant that it was going to be a rough ride for the trip-Ys.
After trading points, Travis and Tim (of the Fighting Puyanas) decided
to play a little game of 500, and went up 10-7. After forcing
Universe though, the pawns forgot to play D, and so that was that.
Final: 11-10, The Fighting Puyanas

3:30 PM Games

Field 1: Bike Gang/Rooks (0-3) vs The Fighting Puyanas/Queens (1-2)

Fresh off their win, the Fighting Puyanas changed their strategy on D
by playing 3 women against an all guy Bike Gang line up. Marta,
though, proved the wisdom of this by beating both the Czar and
Hollywood for a score. In the end, though, the Bike Gang stole the
lead and managed to hang on. Final: 13-11, Team Trike

Field 2: Team Swiss/Bishops (3-0) vs The Blue Knights (2-1)

With Skool and Brit out this game, the Knights were forced to play
savage against the Lady-less Bishops, resulting in an offense-dictates
compromise. At 6-4 (Knights), Team Swiss adopted a Machiavellian
strategy- Yeah, you know what you did- which allowed the Bishops to
take half. Are you proud of yourself, Team Swiss? Are you really?
In the second half, the Knights solved the problem by sending their
woman straight to the end zone for a couple of easy scores. Still,
there were virtually no breaks, and so the knights got excommunicated.
Final: 13-12, Team Swiss.

Field 3: Team Stuart/YYY/Pawns (1-2) vs Team T/J/Kings (2-1)

Team Stuart- with only one sub- was looking to rebound from their
tough loss. The Kings, though, came out like a pornstars and got down
and dirty with the disc. Maybe that's why the Pawns didn't want to
touch it, setting up a 7-0 Kings lead. And then things went really
bad for the Pawns. Nice job Kings. Final 13-2, Team Ted/Jill

See you next week.

*If you have the lead, defense is completely unnecessary. On offense,
however, you must play well enough (at least) to receive the pull for
the Universal point.
